  Day 12: Synthesizing Sources

I will distribute a QUIZ that deals with some of the key principles we have discussed in class for this unit regarding plagiarism and integrating sources. Complete individually and I will collect.

[5-10 min] Review this VOCAB LIST from past lectures. Ask me now if you do not understand one of these terms. You will need to know them throughout your “life” in my class. J

[20 min] Synthesizing Sources     9:50-10:10
To begin our discussion on Source Synthesis, I would you to discuss the following questions in small groups with your classmates:

1) What does the term "Synthesis" mean?
2) Why might source synthesis be a necessary skill to learn for academic writing?
3) What do you find (or think might be) difficult or easy about this task?

Analyze sythesized writing. What isn't sythesis?

[40 min] Part IV: Synthesis Chart/Practice     10:10-1:50
Then we will go over this SYNTHESIS PPT, which will show us one method to synthesize sources into an organized paper. You will need this CHART in order to practice the end activities.

This “chart” concept will help us in synthesizing the articles we have read into paragraphs that hold one main idea.

After we have practiced creating charts with this topic, we will begin to do the same with the articles that we have read for this unit. Work together to fill in the charts. I will circulate for help.

Homework: Read and take notes of Articles. Come with notes from the reading.
