For this part of today's class we will analyze our own writing and learn to identify the difference between strong and weak writing for summaries and synthesis writing.

Part III Workshop/Peer Review (45 min) 9:55-10:40
Have students copy and past their work into their notebooks. Then show the notebooks so we can work together to build our essays
Introduction
- Does it have an academic hook?
- Do they go from broad to a narrow
- Do they have a "thesis statements" that works for an informative paper
- Do they practice a "Direction Statement" that provides the organization of the paper
Minimal Three Body Paragraphs
- Does the topic sentence have key words?
- Do the sub points have reporting verbs (if needed)?
- Do they have in-text citation?
- Do they need a closing sentence to remind the reader of how those points support the topic sentence?
Conclusion
-Do they summarize the main points
-Do they remind the reader of why this topic is important?
-Do they connect this topic to a bigger topic (narrow to broad)?
-Do they discuss the future? (optional)
