Day 16: Introduction to Summary Critique II

• Review basic organizational structure of a summary critique
• Learn steps to compose a summary critique introduction and transitional thesis statement
• Recognize main ideas of research through group summary

[20  min] Part I: Review Quiz 9:30-9:50
Have students work individually and then in pairs to complete a Quiz for Review. 

Go over quiz together with students referring to the SUMMARY CRITIQUE PPT II as a reference to the questions. I will also be distributing the SUMMARY CRITIQUE SAMPLE OUTLINE as a guide to help us in understanding the format.

[20-30 min] Part II: Review Research and Summarize in Groups 9:50-10:15
Go over/complete any parts that were not completed in the last part and then have students work in small groups to discuss the overall structure of the research. Work should be posted HERE in the google doc according to your section. "Fast" groups can start to dissect which parts they think would be worth critiquing. 

[30 min] Part III: Language Overall Structure of Summary Critique 10:15-10:45
Now that we have a main idea of the study, we will  now look to a sample and discuss some main language features found in a critique. Open and  complete the SUMMARY CRITIQUE HANDOUT II parts II-parts VII.

[5 min] Part V: Review Directions  10:40-10:45
Review Directions to Assignment and introduce Individual Critique Option.

[5 min] Discuss Critique Points? {Time permitting}

Homework: 

Read Research Article for next class and review notes. Work on your Writer's Help Activities
